The lights are on but nobody’s home!
We have power! That seems like a major milestone. Pulling down the driveway after being gone on vacation and seeing lights shining in our #littlehouseontheranch was really exciting. MyFarmer then proceeded to walk through the entire house flipping switches to everything… even though there really aren’t many bulbs in yet. But hims was having fun trying.
Other exciting news… the siding is DONE! And the gutters. But the gutters aren’t really as pretty as the siding. They’re just, well, gutters.
We kind of love our little house. ❤
Side note: Anyone that row crop farms looks at this picture and the first thing they notice is that impeccable stand of fescue. The house is totally secondary. HA! Lawn creds: MyFarmer
Probably the most exciting/scary part of the build has been the kitchen cabinets. They are made out of barn wood that came from an old barn on the farm and the hand hewed beams that are holding up the island were in the foundation of the original house on this farm, Miss Rubie’s house. Our contractor HATED the idea, we LOVED the idea. We had seen some of the beautiful handiwork that Orlinda Furniture Company had done previously so we knew the quality of work to expect. Glen was still a major skeptic. We will let the results speak for themselves:
Y’all. They are amazing. SO STINKING AMAZING. I don’t even have words to tell you how amazing and beautiful they are. I’ll probably end up doing an entire post about them when it’s all done, but I just wanted to give you a little teaser because I can’t help myself. *cries internal tears of kitchen joy*
Along with planting a stellar yard, MyFarmer can also build beautiful cedar shutters. He’s kind of handy to have around. Especially because if you ordered one of these bad boys they are a couple hundred bucks A PIECE. We are all about saving that $$.
The master shower is be-au-ti-ful. Wanna know where this fancy and special tile came from? Lowe’s. Wanna know how we picked this color scheme(Mesa)? Because I like the name Mesa, it sounds Ranchy. Wanna know what color is also going in the other bathroom? You guessed it, Mesa. Simplicity is the key to surviving a house build.
So that’s what’s been happening in the Little House on the Ranch world! Can you believe we are just a couple weeks away from Christmas?! Time flies when you’re having fun.
See you next time!
